Breathe the Beat Roadshow: Birmingham - Simmer Down Festival
The Drum in partnership with Perry Barr Arts Forum presents an unforgettable day of performances across live arenas from internationally acclaimed Jamaican reggae superstars and UK-based artists including Brothers of Soul, Stereo Nation and Aswad.
Scattered in the attractive surroundings of Handsworth Park there will be a range of arts and dance activities, plus an exciting array of craft and food stalls. Building on the success of last year’s festival this free event will offer something for everyone – so come and join the Carnival vibe.
Featured as part Simmer Down Festival taking place in Handsworth Park this summer, a Breathe the Beat Roadshow will offer a spectacular stage of free dance performances, including appearances from two of the UK’s leading street dancers – Brooke and Roxy from 2011 Hip Hop International World Champions Plague Dance Crew, and showcases from local talent, youth and community groups, professional dance companies, and music from DJ Moyma. In addition Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) has worked with Soweto Kinch who has influenced sound for a commissioned work by Birmingham Royal Ballet’s, Kit Holder. BRB is a Birmingham City Council ‘Arts Champion’ to Perry Barr.
